WWF, the World Wide Fund for Nature, formerly known as the World Wildlife Fund, is an international non-governmental organisation that focuses on conservation, research, and advocacy concerning the environment and endangered species. WWF works to address issues such as climate change, deforestation, habitat destruction, and wildlife conservation on a global scale.

NGOs, including WWF, Greenpeace, Birdlife, and Transport & Environment, are raising alarms over the potential inclusion of fossil gas in the EU’s Taxonomy Regulation, which determines environmentally sustainable economic activities. They argue that labelling gas as green would undermine the credibility of the taxonomy and the EU’s broader climate goals, as gas is a high-carbon fossil fuel incompatible with the Paris Agreement.
